Useful tips
The following hints and tips for use with your MAXXRAXX cycle carrier may ensure that you have many more trouble free years of use from your rack. If you are an existing user and have any suggestions you think will be of benefit to other owners, please email us at office@maxxraxx.co.uk
Loading your bikes
It may seem natural to load successive bikes facing opposite ways but experience has shown that it may be easier and better to have all the handle-bars at the same side. If some of your bikes are mountain or lady's bikes with sloping top-tubes then it can help to load these alternating with conventional men's bikes.
Ratchet straps
Please make the ratchet strap on your rack as tight as you can. The strap is extremely strong and the ratchet is powerful and designed to help you make the strap very tight which will prevent the bikes from moving.
Loading mountain or lady's bikes with diagonal top-tubes
Although it may look slightly odd to have the rear wheel of your bike raised, it is perfectly safe this way.
Auxiliary straps
2 Auxiliary straps must be used at any time you carry more than 2 bikes or whenever you use the towing height extension.
We would strongly advise that if the toggle end of the Auxiliary straps need to be located into the top of the hatch or boot lid of the vehicle then this should be done before you assemble the S-Tube onto the Foot. If this is not done first, you will find that you will need to lower the loaded rack in order to raise the boot lid or hatch.
The toggles are designed to prevent any damage to the inside of your vehicle. If you have roof-bars on you vehicle, remove one end-cap to remove the toggle from the strap. The remaining loop can be used to attach the strap to the rear end of the roof-bar before being attached to your bike rack.
To prevent possible paint damage to your vehicle, we suggest you remove the short length of the Auxiliary strap (with the metal hook and cam buckle) from the long length of strap, while attaching it to the roof bars.
